Quotes On ‘Grief’ That Made Me Accept Grief

grief

I do not know anything about grief. There have been many moments when I have been sad, no doubt. But the feeling of sadness is not grief.

I have had a protected childhood. I have always been pampered by my family. Thus I was clueless about what to write for the prompt.

But I wanted to understand ‘Grief’. I wanted to know how it affects people and how they deal with it. So I searched the net for quotes on grief and coping with grief. A message that came across was mostly to accept grief and grieve for our loss.

When I Think Of Death by Maya Angelou.

When I Think Of Death

When I think of death, and of late the idea has come with

alarming frequency, I seem at peace with the idea that a day

will dawn when I will no longer be among those living in this valley of strange humors.

I can accept the idea of my own demise, but I am unable to accept the death of anyone else.

I
find it impossible to let a friend or relative go into that

country of no return.

Disbelief becomes my close companion, and anger follows in

it’s wake.

I answer the heroic question, ‘death, where is thy sting?’ with

‘it is here in my heart and mind and memories.’

One more day by Diamond Rio

One more day

One more time

One more sunset, may’be I’d be satisfied

But then again

I know what it would do

Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you.

-Henry David Thoreau

-“Bubbles” The Wire

-George Eliot

-William Shakespeare

-Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and David Kessler

Reading these quotes and many others while searching on the net, served many purposes for me.

I learnt to accept other’s grief. I would empathise with them but never understood their grief. Now I do.

These quotes helped me put my own thoughts into perspective and also share other’s feelings and convey a message.
