I have been reading Apeksha’s fiction blog since I got to know her through the Write Tribe community. I have always enjoyed reading her spy stories and so I was waiting for her debut book to release.
I particularly feel very proud of all my blogger friends who have upgraded themselves to become published authors and so I was very excited to receive a signed Author’s copy from Apeksha.
After I posted a story on my Instagram about ‘Along Came A Spyder’, many of my friends inquired about the book and so I thought I should be writing a review on the blog too.
So, here it is.
About the Author:
Apeksha Rao is a homoeopath by profession and a writer by passion. She wrote her first story at the age of seven and her stories have won her many awards in her school and college. ‘Along came a Spyder’ is her debut novel. The prequel to her novel goes by the name ‘Itsy Bitsy Spyder’.
Apeksha, a born and bred Mumbaikar now resides at Bengaluru. As she explored her new city, she was inspired to start a food blog, in addition to her already popular fiction blog.
About the book/Blurb:
Along Came A Spyder is a story of a seventeen-year-old girl, Samira Joshi, who has only one dream and that is to become a spy. Spying runs in her genes and her parents have been training her since she was a kid. Samira is a sassy and witty teenager who is determined to achieve her dream even after she finds out that her parents are suddenly wary of her choosing to become a spy and wants her to be a doctor instead.
When she sees a college friend being trapped by a pimp, Samira does some spying of her own and discovers the existence of a secret sisterhood of teen spies. She is keen to join this group and achieve her dream. However, she isn’t sure if they want her.
What I Liked
‘Along Came A Spyder’ is a fast-paced thriller in the young adult genre. The story is full of unpredictable twists and turns that kept me on the edge. Samira is a bold teenager who can be a role model for young girls. The manner in which she navigates through the dangerous situations tactfully using advanced technology is very thrilling and exciting to read.
Along came a Spyder’ breaks all myths that surround a debut novel. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so can’t write much about the story but intriguing plot, impressive characters and a book that you will read the beginning to end at one go.
A page-turner. A complete entertainer.
I would like to mention that I have grown reading Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle and as a reader, I was mightily impressed by Apeksha Rao’s debut spy novel.
This book is what all feminists and cheerleaders for young female adults will love.

I’ve been reading great reviews of this book, would add it to my reading list. Thanks for the review!
Today Apeksha has been featured in Mumbai Mirror as well.
Enjoyed reading your review. Along the lines of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle? Now my interest is quite piqued. I have been hearing a lot about the book. Time to pick it up.
Oooh! I haven’t had a chance to read “Along Came a Spyder”, but I have heard rave reviews about it. On the other hand, I myself am embarking on something sort of a spy thriller for this year’s My Friend Alexa!
That’s good, I will visit your blog to read. And do read Apeksha’s book.
Hey Aesha, I am also reading the same book and I agree it’s intriguing and fast paced. I have also grown up reading mystery/crime thrillers and watching CID. So this calls for a treat.
This was such a fabulous read! I can’t wait for the next of their adventures!
