Highlighting Strengths & Experience : How To Write Your Study Abroad Resume

Whether you wish to study abroad or in India, a few prerequisites for admissions don’t change. Academics and their importance remain an important factor and integral to the application process to study abroad. However, it will not be the only primary factor determining admission to a college.

A student needs to submit a Statement of purpose, write college essays. Also a student needs to submit a resume for some under grad courses and most post grad courses. A student also needs to appear for an interview while applying for most post graduate courses in India and abroad.

Thus, it becomes important to learn how to highlight your strengths on all this documents and also in your interview.

When you are applying to study abroad programs, your resume is one of the most important pieces of your application. It is your chance to highlight your strengths, skills and experience, and to demonstrate why you are a good fit for the program.

Firstly you need to share the basic information about yourself. Your study abroad resume should include your personal information , your educational background, and your work experience. It’s essential that you highlight any relevant skills or qualifications.

Next, it is time to think about what makes you unique and highlight this attribute of your personality in the resume. Perhaps you have some additional certifications and course work which are relevant  or attended workshops or have experience of living in another country. Whatever it is, be sure to highlight it on your resume.

Universities across the world are looking for students who are open to new cultures and experiences. Highlighting any intercultural experience you have, whether it’s from travel, volunteering, or working with people from different background makes your resume stand out and impressive. Use action verbs like “developed,” “organised,” “led,” and “created” to show off your best qualities.

Most importantly keep your resume concise. A study abroad resume should be one or two pages at most. Stick to the most relevant information. Do not forget to proofread your study abroad resume before you submit it.

Remember to tailor your resume specifically for the program you are applying to, and to highlight the skills and experiences that will be most relevant.
